Salvatore Battaglia

BIOGRAPHY

Salvatore Battaglia is an Italian artist currently living and creating in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia. Salvatore was born in Sicily (1985) where he studied at Liceo Artistico “Diego Bianca Amato” to obtain a diploma of goldsmith and a qualification of art master. During his studies he mastered his knowledge of colour. Consequently, he become a ceramic artist, while continuously developing his skills to paint on various materials and surfaces.

In line with his motto, “Sicilians build things like they will live forever and eat like they will die tomorrow”, his latest collection is a homage to the Sicilian cultural wonderland with inspiration stemming from Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Norman and Spanish heritages. In fact, Sicily is a brilliant mix of old and new, traditional and unexpected, hence the preference of Salvatore’s to work with traditional Sicilian majolica techniques with addition of 24k gold features.

In short, Salvatore strongly believes that the beautiful classic traditions of Sicilian lifestyle should be preserved for many generations yet to come. Sicily is an island of legends and myths - using the mythology stories and figures seems very natural for Salvatore. He dreams of the island being remembered for its beauty.
